Chinchor Electric Inc. is updating a traffic signal on State Road 24A and Williston Road at Hawthorne Trail. The contract is considered a safety project, as they are adding a HAWK System, or more specifically a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon, which is a flashing beacon that will be activated by the pedestrians on the Hawthorne Trail, who want to cross State Road 331. When the system is activated, it will stop traffic in both directions, to allow the pedestrians to safely cross. As of right now, there is currently only one other functioning PHB in the Gainesville area.
