The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is currently completing a roadway improvement project on New Kings Road (S.R. 15/U.S. 1). The improvements include resurfacing the roadway from Edgewood Avenue (S.R. 111) to Trout River Boulevard. Lighting and sidewalk will also be installed on each side of the roadway from Edgewood Avenue to Wagner Road. Additional safety improvements also include:
- Upgrading the pedestrian signals and signs within the project limits
- Installing flashing beacons for the school zone mid-block crosswalk just north of Martin Luther King Drive
- Installing two new crosswalks across Martin Luther King Drive and Lorida Avenue
- Minor utility and drainage work
Construction work is allowed 7 days per week, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting. Some portions of sidewalk may be closed temporarily while concrete curb work is underway. Lane closures are allowed Monday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
No work will be allowed during certain special events and specific holidays.
Duval Asphalt Products, Inc. was selected to complete the improvements by fall 2019, weather and schedule permitting.
