FDOT has been studying an overpass for the past year which will improve emergency response times and allow traffic to flow more freely. With 29 trains traveling through the city each day, emergency vehicles and other traffic experience frequent delays. Train traffic is expected to increase in the future, so the goal of the study is to identify a suitable location for a railroad overpass in Starke.
The State Road 100 concept would build a bridge from Adams Street, just east of U.S. 301, to South Street. One-way frontage roads would be provided to allow local traffic to access Cherry, Church and Thompson streets.
Construction is currently funded in 2020 at a cost ranging from $16 million to $28 million depending on the location selected. Right of way acquisition would begin in 2018.
