Fort George/Batten Island trail and trailhead Public Meeting

Overview

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) hosted an informal public meeting Thursday, July 24, 2015 regarding the trailhead proposed for Fort George, Batten Island.

The improvement project will primarily involve building a trailhead and new park entrance at Fort George Island to connect with Palmetto Avenue, linking the trail from Shad Creek Bridge along Heckscher Drive to the new Fort George Trailhead. Work includes restoration of some of the marshes on Batten Island.     

The proposed trailhead will include a parking lot, pavilions and tables. A cul-de-sac at the end of the residential area of Fort George Road is also being proposed.
