State Road 5/U.S. 1 resurfacing from North Ponce De Leon Blvd to Cross Ridge Drive
Overview

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is scheduled to begin a roadway resurfacing project on State Road 5/U.S. 1 from North Ponce De Leon Boulevard to Cross Ridge Drive in late February, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting. The purpose of the project is to mill and pave the roadway as part of regular maintenance and install new sidewalk and lighting to improve roadway and pedestrian safety.

The roadway will be resurfaced from North Ponce DeLeon Boulevard to Cross Ridge Drive. New sidewalk and lighting will be installed on each side of the roadway from Fairbanks Street to Big Oak Road. Minor drainage and utility work will also be necessary.

  • Periodic lane closures will be allowed on U.S. 1 from North Ponce De Leon Boulevard to Gun Club Road Monday through Sunday 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
  • Periodic lane closures will be allowed on U.S. 1 from Gun Club Road to Cross Ridge Drive Monday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
  • Lane closure times will be restricted for Nease High School before school begins and after school ends.

Public Open House (Monday, February 24, 2020)

A public open house is scheduled Monday, February 24 in the Muscovy Room at the St. John’s County Health Department Building, 200 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine, FL 32084.

Citizens are invited to drop by any time from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to view project displays and discuss traffic impacts and construction activities with members of the project team.

Access Management Hearing (Monday, June 3, 2019)

The Florida Department of Transportation will be holding an Access Management Hearing Monday, June 3, 2019 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the St. Augustine Main Library, 1960 N. Ponce De Leon Boulevard in St. Augustine, Florida.

The purpose of the public hearing is to discuss the department’s proposal to close the median on State Road 5/U.S. 1 south of the north Northrop Grumman entrance to reduce conflicts and meet current median opening spacing standards.

Project documents will be available for review at the public hearing and at www.nflroads.com by May 27, 2019. Persons wishing to submit written statements or other exhibits in place of or in addition to oral statements may do so at the hearing or by sending them to Nelson Bedenbaugh, 1109 S. Marion Avenue, Lake City FL 32025. All exhibits or statements postmarked on or before June 13, 2019 will become part of the public hearing record.
