The Florida Department of Transportation is currently replacing the Ribault River Bridge on Howell Drive. The City of Jacksonville currently maintains the structure originally built in 1964. The Ribault River Bridge will be replaced by a new bridge with two 12-foot travel lanes and 5-foot wide shoulders striped for bicyclists. Barrier walls will be constructed to separate pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and sidewalk and handrails will be installed on both sides of the bridge.
A temporary bridge will be constructed over the Ribault River next to the existing structure for the contractor to safely complete work. Pile driving will be allowed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Lane closures will not be allowed from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. on school days.
Superior Construction Company Southeast, LLC was selected to complete the project.
The newly constructed bridge is now open to traffic. The City of Jacksonville will continue to maintain the bridge once the project is completed.
