Overland Landscape Project
Overview

The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Overland Landscaping project includes plantings of numerous species of trees and shrubs, irrigation and installation of pavers and hardscape along approximate one-and-a-half miles of I-95 from north of Emerson Street to east of the Fuller Warren Bridge along the Overland Bridge in downtown Jacksonville. The project includes landscaping of five retention ponds, ramps, medians and right-of-ways within the I-95 downtown corridor, including ramps and medians off I-95 at Atlantic Boulevard and Philips Highway (U.S. 1), and the south entrances of the Acosta and Main Street bridges. The $2.1 million landscaping project was created through District Two’s FDOTree program, an initiative developed to promote communication and delivery of FDOT’s Northeast Florida landscaping program.

Traffic impacts for the project are projected to be relatively minor. Landscape improvements may require the temporary lane closures of some adjacent local roads for limited periods of time for installation. No proposed lane closures are anticipated on Interstate 95 as all landscape is proposed adjacent to the Overland structures at ground level.
