State Road A1A from Gnarled Oaks Drive to the Duval County line Proposed Operational Improvements
Overview

This project proposes improvements at various intersections on State Road A1A to improve operations and increase safety for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, children and other vulnerable users of the corridor.

FDOT and Saint Johns County propose the following improvements on State Road A1A at the following locations:

  • Fairfield Boulevard/Sawgrass Drive West will experience re-routing of eastbound/westbound through and left-turn movements
  • TPC Boulevard/Country Club Boulevard will experience re-routing of eastbound/westbound through movements
  • Sawgrass Village Drive/L’Atrium Drive will experience re-routing of eastbound/westbound through movements
  • Solana Road will experience re-routing of northbound left-turn and westbound through movements and potential re-routing of southbound left-turn movement.
  • Library Boulevard will undergo a potential extension of the southbound U-turn lane and bulb-out construction to accommodate U-turn movement.
  • Ponte Vedra Lakes Boulevard will undergo an extension of the eastbound right-turn lane
  • Merchants Plaza to Professional Drive will undergo and extension of the southbound auxiliary lane to improve merging from J.T. Butler Boulevard (State Road 202)

The proposed project has an estimated cost of $7.1 million. $3.9 million of this cost estimate would be contributed by Saint Johns County.

In-Person Public Hearing (Tuesday, June 23, 2026)
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will host a public hearing Tuesday, June 23, 2026 to discuss the proposed median modifications on State Road A1A from Gnarled Oaks Drive to the Duval County line. Citizens can attend the meeting in person at THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center located at 175 Landrum Ln., Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082. FDOT staff and consultants will be available from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to answer questions and accept comments. A formal hearing and public comment period will begin at 6 p.m.
Virtual Public Hearing (Wednesday, June 24, 2026)
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will host a virtual public hearing Wednesday, June 24, 2026, online at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/5107212175333076058 (webinar ID 848-119-259) to discuss the proposed median modifications on State Road A1A from Gnarled Oaks Drive to the Duval County line.
