King Street and Cathedral Place jurisdiction transfer and San Sebastian Bridge replacement
Overview

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) invites you to attend a Hybrid Public Hearing / Project Information Meeting regarding SR 5A/King Street in St. Augustine, Florida.

The Public Hearing will cover the proposed transfer of jurisdiction of State Road 5A from State to City of St. Augustine jurisdiction (locally known as King Street and Cathedral Place). The roadway ID for King Street is 78010027 from milepost 0.000 to 0.833, and Cathedral Place is 78010026, from milepost 0.000 to 0.216. We welcome your comments. All comments postmarked on or before May 2, 2022, will be documented as part of this hearing. Please send all comments to Justin Bellot, Florida Department of Transportation, 1109 S. The Project Information Meeting will present plans being proposed for the replacement of the SR 5A/King Street Bridge over San Sebastian River.

  • The bridge replacement project is currently in the design phase and is scheduled to go to construction in summer 2024.
  • The proposed bridge will include two 11 ft. travel lanes, one 11 ft. turn lane, 10 ft. sidewalk on northside of bridge and 6 ft. sidewalk on the southside of the bridge.
  • Upgraded aesthetic lighting and bridge rail will also be installed as part of this project.
  • A detour will be necessary for the during of the project while crews complete demolition work and build the replacement bridge.

In-Person Public Hearing/Project Info Meeting (Thursday, April 21, 2022)

The meeting will take place in-person at the First United Methodist Church of St. Augustine located at 118 King Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with a public comment period at 6:00 p.m. Department personnel will be at the meeting to assist you in reviewing the maps and to answer any questions you may have.

Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability or family status. Persons who require special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act or who require translation services (free of charge) should contact Justin Bellot at (386) 758-3774 at least seven days prior to the meeting.
