Beach Boulevard (State Road 212) from San Mateo Drive to Schumacher Avenue Intersection Improvements
Overview

FDOT’s Beach Boulevard (State Road 212) from San Mateo Avenue to Schumacher Avenue Intersection Improvements project will install a mid-block pedestrian crossing between Kenneth Street and Camden Avenue. Mid-block pedestrian crossings function like signalized crosswalks at intersections and provide a dedicated safe area for pedestrians to cross the street, utilizing a signal for vehicle control and street lighting for better visibility at night. Drivers will get a flashing red light, indicating they must stop while pedestrians safely cross the road.

Proposed improvements include:

  • Installation of a mid-block pedestrian crossing between Kenneth Street and Camden Avenue
  • Installation of new mast-arm signals and pedestrian signals at San Mateo Avenue and Beach Boulevard
  • New sidewalks, curb, highway signage, roadway striping and various other safety improvement

Traffic will be maintained in accordance with FDOT standards. Drivers may expect lane closures during off-peak hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times.

Traffic Control Devices LLC was selected to complete this $1 million project, which began in October 2022 with expected completion in summer 2023, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
