Heckscher Drive (State Road A1A/State Road 105) Timucuan Trail from Big Talbot Island to Little Talbot Island
Overview

Construction of a new segment of the Timucuan Trail on the east side of Heckscher Drive (State Road A1A) from Little Talbot Island to Big Talbot Island began in late August. The 10-foot-wide Timucuan Trail, a shared use bike and walking path, will connect to the existing trail at the Little Talbot Island State Park entrance and extend to the Big Talbot Island State Park Big Pine Trailhead north of Houston Avenue. The 1.5-mile trail segment is part of the greater Timucuan Trail system, which will connect Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in Duval County to the Amelia Island Trail in Nassau County. The trail will be a continuous paved path along 20 miles of State Road A1A, connecting to parking areas, trailheads and the St. Johns River Ferry along the way. The Timucuan Trail is a component of the larger trail network known as the East Coast Greenway, stretching from Florida to Maine. Superior Construction Company, LLC of Jacksonville is expected to complete the $2.9 million project, weather permitting, in fall 2023.
