The bridge is located over the Suwannee River, on the border of Suwannee and Lafayette counties near Dowling Park. The $11.7 million project is expected to begin on September 10. FDOT has hired Anderson Columbia Co., Inc., of Lake City, to handle the construction.
The existing bridge on County Road 250, which was built in the mid-1950s, has two 12-foot travel lanes with no shoulders. The replacement bridge, which will be located on the south side of the current bridge, will provide two 12-foot wide travel lanes and 10-foot shoulders.
During construction, the existing bridge will remain open to traffic. Once the new bridge is constructed, traffic will be shifted to the new roadway alignment and bridge, and allow the existing/former bridge to be demolished.
