The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has begun a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) study to consider improvements to US 19 in Citrus and Levy Counties. This project, conducted in accordance with 339.67 of the Florida Statutes, will study ways to achieve free flow traffic conditions along US 19 from the terminus of Suncoast Parkway 2 Phase 3 north to NW 140th Street in Chiefland. In February 2022, FDOT held a series of public meetings to ask for feedback about the proposed project. Additional public meetings are expected.
FDOT is currently working to gather and analyze data for the PD&E study of US 19. In the coming weeks and months, you may see project staff in the field as part of this data collection. They may be surveying the right-of-way, measuring noise with tripods and microphones, taking pictures, making notes, or possibly even digging holes and sifting through dirt. Information gathered through such activities provides project staff with details necessary to carefully complete the PD&E Study. FDOT District Two is committed to being a good local partner, and we will continue to keep you updated about our progress on this project. During the PD&E study, FDOT will:
- Host public kick-off meetings to introduce and explain the project and ask for public feedback
- Coordinate with local governments to obtain input on the development of alternatives
- Develop initial alternatives
- Conduct public meetings/workshops about initial alternatives
- Refine alternatives based on public feedback
- Submit alternatives for analysis of natural, physical, cultural, and socioeconomic involvement
- Hold public hearing for recommended alternative
