U.S. 19/NW 140th Street Intersection Improvements Workshop
Overview

The Florida Department of Transportation is planning changes to the U.S. 19 and NW 140th Street intersection as part of the upcoming U.S. 19 (State Road 55) milling and resurfacing project (FIN 443629-1). The design employs a Restricted Crossing U-turn intersection (RCUT) to promote safety.

This design reduces the number of conflict points at the existing intersection from 32 to 14. According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), this proven safety countermeasure yields a 54% reduction in fatal and injury crashes when a two-way stop-controlled intersection is upgraded to an RCUT. The design continues to allow for movement of emergency vehicles as well as large vehicles.
